Set up a sleep schedule once, and your Apple Watch will track your sleep each night so StrivePD can show how rest affects your quality of life.
What you'll need
- An iPhone with the latest version of iOS
- An Apple Watch with the latest version of watchOS, paired to your iPhone
- Charge your Apple Watch to at least 30% before bed
- Wear your Apple Watch to sleep for at least 1 hour each night
Set up your sleep schedule
You only need to do this once. After setup, your watch will automatically track your sleep on nights you wear it.
- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap Browse at the bottom of the screen (or tap Search if you don't see Browse), then tap Sleep.
- Tap Get Started under Set Up Sleep, then tap Next.
- Follow the onscreen prompts to set up each part of your schedule:
- Sleep Goal: Choose how many hours you'd like to spend asleep. You can adjust this later.
- Bedtime and Wake Up: Set when you'd like to go to bed and wake up.
- Sleep Focus: Optionally simplify your Lock Screen and turn on Sleep Focus at bedtime to reduce distractions.
- Track Sleep with Apple Watch: Turn this on. This is the key step that enables automatic sleep tracking on your watch.
- Tap Done to save your schedule.
Tap Get Started under Set Up Sleep to begin.
Set your days, bedtime, and wake up time, then make sure Track Sleep with Apple Watch is turned on.
Note: If you pair your Apple Watch after completing Sleep setup, you can still turn on Track Sleep with Apple Watch later (see the section below.)
Already set up Sleep but not tracking with your watch?
If you set up Sleep in the Health app before pairing your Apple Watch, or if tracking was turned off, you can enable it without starting over:
- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap Browse, then tap Sleep.
- Scroll down to Your Schedule and tap Full Schedule & Options.
-
Turn on Track Sleep with Apple Watch.
Tips for accurate tracking
- Turn on Charging Reminders. On your iPhone, open the Watch app, tap My Watch, then tap Sleep. Turn on Charging Reminders so your watch reminds you to charge before bedtime. If your watch battery dies overnight, it won't record sleep data.
- Wear your watch at a comfortable fit. If it's too loose, movement during sleep may affect accuracy.
- Wear it every night. Sleep data requires at least 1 hour of wear time per night.
Not seeing your sleep data in StrivePD?
If StrivePD shows a message like "Did you forget to wear your watch last night?" or your Sleep History has no recent entries, work through this checklist:
When tracking is working, your sleep history fills in each night in the Health app and flows into StrivePD.
- Did you wear your Apple Watch to bed last night? Your watch must be on your wrist for at least 1 hour to record sleep.
- Is your watch data synced? Make sure your Apple Watch is charged, turned on, unlocked, and near your iPhone. Open StrivePD and wait a moment for HealthKit data to sync.
- Is Track Sleep with Apple Watch turned on? Follow the steps in Already set up Sleep but not tracking with your watch? above.
- Was your watch charged before bed? Charge to at least 30% before your scheduled bedtime.
- Have you set up a sleep schedule? If you haven't completed setup yet, follow the steps in Set up your sleep schedule above.
Please note: Sleep tracking is not available on Apple Watches set up with Apple Watch For Your Kids (formerly Family Setup).
